GURGAON: A 28-year-old man was thrashed, paraded through the streets and slapped with an FIR after a video of him allegedly feeding chicken momo to a cow during a live stream was widely circulated on social media, sparking outrage among Bajrang Dal members.
Ritik, a resident of New Colony, was arrested on charges of hurting religious sentiments. He was, however, granted bail.
The controversy began on Sunday, when Ritik was live streaming on the Prism app. The video shows him taking up a challenge to finish a full plate of momos and even confirming with the vendor if they contain chicken. Unable to finish the food, Ritik was seen offering the leftovers to a cow standing nearby.
Ritik's post was widely shared online from the handle of Chaman Khatana - who identifies himself as a Bajrang Dal member - and quickly drew the attention of local cow protection groups.
On Monday, Khatana and his associates arrived at Ritik's house and started recording videos of a confrontation with his father. In one clip, Khatana is seen speaking to Ritik's father, demanding an apology and threatening to beat up his son. Ritik is then brought out, paraded on the street along with his father, and questioned on camera about the incident.
During the confrontation, the group also questions him about the source of his funds to make live videos.
