Footpaths, cycle tracks, storm drains: Gurgaon civic body to build model road in Sector 66
Gurgaon: MCG has initiated the process to appoint a private contractor for developing a model road in Sector 66, nearly four months after the project received approval from the finance and contracts committee (F&CC). The project, estimated to cost Rs 7.4 crore, involves the development of a 24m-wide revenue road and its supporting infrastructure. According to MCG officials, the work will include construction of footpaths and cycle tracks, and the laying of storm water drains and sewerage pipelines to upgrade the stretch into a model road.

"The road is around 850m long and the project is expected to be completed in around one year and two months," an MCG official said, adding, "The redesigned road will have solar lighting, rumble strips and thermoplastic road markings. Encroachment will be cleared off it to improve safety and traffic movement. Storm water and sewerage lines will be laid before the road development begins."The project is part of the civic body's plan to develop 100km of city roads as model roads to improve urban mobility. In Jan, MCG floated tenders to redevelop the stretch connecting South City-2 (A Block) with Nirvana Country at an estimated cost of Rs 5.1 crore. Tenders have also been initiated for two more model roads in Sectors 32 and 39.
The Sector 32 road will be 750m long, running from Rajiv Chowk on NH 8 to Medanta, and is estimated to cost Rs 6.7 crore. The Sector 39 project will cover 1km from Medanta to Bakhtawar Chowk and is expected to cost nearly Rs 7.2 crore. It will include cycle tracks, footpaths, and green spaces.Officials said these projects reflect MCG's focus on improving road infrastructure and creating safer streets for pedestrians and cyclists. At its meeting on Nov 20, 2025, the F&CC approved several other model road projects across the city. These included the South City-2 Block A to Nirvana Country stretch, a project from Southern Peripheral Road to Bani Square costing Rs 6.1 crore, and a Rs 6.3 crore project from Omaxe Mall to Rosewood City.
