GURGAON: A fake clinic operating in New Palam Vihar was busted during a raid by a joint team of health department officials and the Food and Drugs Administration on Tuesday night, leading to the registration of an FIR against the alleged operator for illegally practising medicine without any qualification or licence.
According to the complaint filed by Dr Om Parkash, Medical Officer at DCH Gurgaon, the raid was conducted at “Dr Bengali Janta Sewa Clinic” located in Yadav Market, Sector 110, after authorities received information that illegal medical practice was being carried out at the premises.
Officials said Sukumar Biswas, a resident of Nadia district in West Bengal and presently staying in New Palam Vihar, was found operating the clinic. During the inspection, the team allegedly recovered used syringes, IV glucose bottles with IV sets, medical instruments and a large stock of allopathic medicines from the premises.
The complaint stated that Biswas failed to produce any medical qualification certificate, registration documents, drug licence, biomedical waste disposal certificate or records related to the purchase and sale of medicines. He allegedly admitted before the team that he had been running the clinic for the past six years without any registration.
Authorities also recovered a laboratory test report bearing the name of the clinic, which investigators said indicated that patients were being misled into believing that treatment was being provided by a qualified doctor.
The medicines, medical equipment and other recovered items were sealed on the spot in the presence of the raiding team and police personnel from Bajghera police station. A handwritten statement and Aadhaar card copy submitted by the accused were also taken into police possession.
Based on the complaint and the material recovered during the raid, Bajghera police registered an FIR under Sections 318(4), 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 34 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
Police said further investigation is underway.
