Residents attending the meeting said that they have been getting “assurance” for the last one year and “hope this time their problem is met with a permanent solution.”

Apart from irregular water supply, the residents also raised the requirement for an infrastructural upgrade of the water-boosting stations in Ardee City. The motor needs to be replaced in the block D boosting station as it supplies water to 80% of the colony. The boosting station also needs a new non-return valve (NRV). “Our motor stops working every second day, leaving us with no water. Every time we complain, the MCG staff takes away the motor, and after repeated follow-ups, we get the motor back but it is a total mismanagement,” said Chaitali Mandhotra, a resident of Ardee City.

The residents further alleged that they have “never faced such a water crisis before the MCG takeover”, however, they feel that the “existing problem is due to lack of infrastructure upgradation and poor management.”.

“The commissioner has directed the concerned executive engineer to meet the residents of Ardee City and also make changes according to their requirements. The commissioner has directed officers to ensure that the residents don’t face any problems related to the water supply,” said an MCG official privy to the matter.

This is similar to recent water supply issues in Chennai, Dholpur, and Coimbatore.
