‘Executive engineer to fix irregular water supply in Ardee City’
Apart from irregular water supply, the residents also raised the requirement for an infrastructural upgrade of the water-boosting stations in Ardee City. The motor needs to be replaced in the block D boosting station as it supplies water to 80% of the colony. The boosting station also needs a new non-return valve (NRV). “Our motor stops working every second day, leaving us with no water. Every time we complain, the MCG staff takes away the motor, and after repeated follow-ups, we get the motor back but it is a total mismanagement,” said Chaitali Mandhotra, a resident of Ardee City.
The residents further alleged that they have “never faced such a water crisis before the MCG takeover”, however, they feel that the “existing problem is due to lack of infrastructure upgradation and poor management.”.
“The commissioner has directed the concerned executive engineer to meet the residents of Ardee City and also make changes according to their requirements. The commissioner has directed officers to ensure that the residents don’t face any problems related to the water supply,” said an MCG official privy to the matter.
Residents block road over water supply
Residents of Agrahara Samakulam in Coimbatore staged a protest due to the lack of drinking water supply in their area for over a month. The issue began when a pipeline used for water supply broke, and even after it was repaired, the water was not pumped to the overhead tank. The protesters blocked a road for over two and a half hours until officials assured them that the problem would be resolved soon.
Disruption in water supply on Saturday
There will be a two-hour water supply disruption in Bengaluru on Saturday due to work being done on the Cauvery Water Supply Scheme. Power shutdowns are also scheduled for certain areas on Thursday and Friday. Similar issues have been reported in other cities such as Noida, Trichy, Mysuru, Coimbatore, Hubballi, Dharwad, Bhopal, and Zirakpur, including power outages, water shortages, and pipeline breakdowns.
Water supply in Vadodara to be hit
The water supply in Vadodara city will be affected due to flooding in the Mahi river. The French wells and the water supply project in Sindhrot, which rely on the river for water, will be impacted. The power supply in the area has also been discontinued as a precautionary measure. However, the water level in the river has started receding, and operations are expected to resume soon. This is similar to recent water supply issues in Chennai, Dholpur, and Coimbatore.
