Gurgaon: A Sohna-based doctor driving with her husband was allegedly molested, abused and threatened by two men who also smashed her car’s windscreen after she tried to overtake their vehicle in South City 2 on Tuesday.
The incident, which took place around 4pm, is the second in under a week in which women have been sexually harassed in
road rage incidents in the city. One accused has been arrested.
The couple was visiting South City 2 for some work when the two accused — travelling in a Delhi-registered vehicle — blocked their car near Shishpal Vihar. Police were yet to identify the makes of the vehicles involved. As soon as the doctor stopped, they began molesting her. When she threatened to call the police, the accused turned more aggressive, abusing her and preventing her from driving away. They then attacked her vehicle before fleeing as bystanders gathered, hurling threats of further violence as they left.
The woman filed a complaint at Sadar police station. An FIR was registered under sections 324(4) (mischief causing damage), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 74 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75(2) (sexual harassment), 79 (words or acts intending to insult the modesty of a woman) and 3(5) (common intention) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The arrested man was identified as Paras Thakaran, a resident of Malibu Town in Sector 47, police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said.
In the earlier incident on Saturday, five intoxicated men sexually harassed and intimidated a woman following a multi-vehicle collision on the Rajiv Chowk flyover. The men surrounded the survivor, hurled abuses and made obscene gestures while filming her and falsely accusing her of causing the accident. They threatened to upload the footage on social media. In that case too, a similar FIR was registered at Sadar police station.
The incident happened when an autorickshaw braked abruptly, triggering the pileup. Before the woman could assess the impact of the damage to her Skoda car, five men in an MG Hector blocked her vehicle and began the saga of abuse.
“The accused told investigators they were travelling from Delhi to Manesar when the accident occurred. They admitted to abusing the complainant and behaving inappropriately with her during the dispute,” Turan had said. Investigators found that one of the accused had a prior criminal case in Sonipat involving obstruction of a public way and use of abusive language in a public place.
