GURGAON: On Sunday, residents of DLF Phase III and Sushant Lok gathered to protest against the severe water crisis that has been plaguing their localities for quite some time now.
The residents have been promised a water supply for 30 minutes at 7am and 4pm every day; however, they complain that this is not the case. Residents say that water supply is very irregular and that they get water for hardly 15-20 minutes in the morning while in the evening, there is often no supply at all.

As one of the disgruntled residents of DLF phase III said, “We can manage even if we get half an hour of uninterrupted water supply a day. But unfortunately, the authorities are unable to provide even that.”
Residents have been forced to buy tankers but as another resident, Neeta, said, “Tankers cannot be a permanent solution to our problem.” While buying tankers on a regular basis is costing heavy on the pockets, residents say they have little options. “If you are going for work, or children are going to schools, you need to get ready early in the morning and can’t wait for the erratic water supply. So we have no other choice but to buy water from tankers,” said another resident. Despite residents’ complains for almost a year, the RWA of DLF Phase III has allegedly not taken any measures to check the problem. Many claimed that RWA meetings are all about “drinks and fancy lunches but no one keeps their promise”. Residents have decided to meet HUDA administrator Parveen Kumar personally on Monday afternoon and discuss their issues.
Residents are also angry at the mushrooming guesthouses in the area — each having nearly 20 air-conditioners — as they are eating into their water and electricity share. The situation is equally grim in Sushant Lok where the water supply has been erratic since 15 days. Anil Sharma, general secretary, Sushant Lok RWA, said, “About 70% of our water demands are met by borewells and 30% by HUDA. The borewells have dried up and HUDA is able to provide only 5%.”
