Detours, lack of signage sour Sohna Road traffic plan

Gurgaon: The traffic diversions at Subhash Chowk, that was put on trial from Sunday to ease congestion on the stretch, has not got down well with residents of

Sohna Road

. On Monday, commuters felt a lot of inconvenience owing to lack of signage that could inform them about the diversions, resulting in bottlenecks at a few spots and an increased travel time.

According to residents, closing the right and the left turns on Sohna Road meant the commuters had to travel some extra kilometres to take the required turn to reach their destination.

As they were unaware of the diversions most of the commuters took spent extra time on the road to figure out the exact

that could help them reach their destination.

“It took me an hour to drop my children to her school in South City-1 on Monday. Earlier, it used to take me just half-an-hour to drop her to school as I used to take the right turn at Subhash Chowk and head straight to the school but today I had to take a left turn from Subhash Chowk, head 750 metres towards

Chowk, take a U-turn under the flyover and then travel towards Netaji Subhash Marg. The diversion is absurd for people living along Sohna Road,” said Protima Mitra Gulati, a resident of Malibu Towne.

“Every time I have to go to Netaji Subhash Marg, which is located just 100 meters away from my home, I have to take the flyover and travel for at least two kilometres more. Isn’t it absurd?” asked Kartik Bharsana, a resident of JMD Gardens.

Some residents also alleged that absence of signage led to

during peak hours. “I was heading towards my office located close to

Resorts from Huda City Centre. As there was no signage, I took the usual route and got stuck at Subhash Chowk. I had to go back to Netaji Subhash Marg, take the flyover and then reach my office. Overall, it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach my office from Huda City Centre today, which is usually a 20 minute drive,” said Tanya Mishra, a resident of Delhi who travels regularly from Huda City Centre to Sohna Road.

“The traffic diversion might lead to a few minutes longer drive, but it will help in decongestion of traffic on Sohna Road. The diversions have been made on a trial basis,” a traffic cop said.
