GURGAON: As part of an on-going process to make women BPO employees feel safe and secure, industry body Business Process Industry Association of India (BPIAI) has started an initiative wherein senior cops from Gurgaon will visit various facilities and teach employees about their rights and responsibilities.
For many months now we have undertaken several initiatives regarding the safety of women working in the BPO industry.
Most of these checks were conducted internally. It included things like calling up cab drivers real-time to check if they are following the prescribed route.
Also after the recent guidelines issued by Delhi and Gurgaon police, we started calling employees to confirm that they had reached home safely. We also wanted to know how our industry can help the police and recently we held a training session for SHOs, said Rakesh Sharma, a BPIAI member.
Explaining the latest initiative he said, We have had three sessions so far wherein we have invited senior cops, including lady constables, to understand the issue at hand. These cops go to the shop floor and talk to these girls about their rights and instill a sense of responsibility in them.
According to the police this initiative will help in bridging the gap. This is a police public partnership and it will make the women BPO employees more confident. We give them tips and the process helped sensitize the police force as well. This initiative will certainly make women BPO employees feel somebody is there for them, said Vikas Arora, DCP (east) Gurgaon.
