FARIDABAD: A 30-year-old man died after jumping from Kheri Bridge into Gurgaon Canal on Sunday while trying to escape from police. The deceased was identified as Raju Bhatnagar.
Raju was roaming on the bridge with his two friends – Jitendra and Salim – around 5pm on Sunday. Finding their activities suspicious, cops patrolling the area tried to apprehend the trio.

Threatened by the police, the trio ran. While Jitendra and Salim were caught immediately, Raju managed to run farther and dived into the canal to avoid getting captured. When he did not reappear on the surface of the water, the cops got scared and let the other two leave.
Raju’s body was fished out on Monday morning. His family accused the police personnel for causing his death. Raju, they said, used to work as a labourer and no case was registered against him. The family members and people from the village gathered and blocked the bypass road demanding immediate action against cops responsible for Raju’s death.
DCP Darshan Lal Malik said a settlement has been reached and action will be taken against the erring personnel if they are found guilty in an inquiry.
