Cops gear up for security on New Year’s Eve

GURUGRAM: Extensive traffic arrangements have been made in the city combat snarls this weekend. Around 3,500 cops have been deployed across Gurugram starting Friday night. The postings will continue till the early hours of Monday, i.e. till new year. Interestingly, there will be around 900 trainee cops from other districts who will be having their first field experience during the new year’s duty.
The arrangements have been made focusing around 6 points- maintaining law and order, smooth flow or traffic, avoiding hotels and pub brawls, security of women and avoid accidents due to drunken driving, over speeding and triple riding on the bikes.
To avoid any mishap, 96 nakas will be put up across the district. These include 37 check posts in East zones, 48 in West zone and 11 in South district. The maximum deployment will be in and around Cyber Hub, MG Road, Golf Course Road, Sector 29 and Sohna Road. In fact, around 25 check posts have been set up around the pubs and malls in the city. These include check posts near Sahara Mall, Vipul Agora Mall, DT City Centre Mall, MGF Metropolitan mall, JMD Mall, Sahara Grace, Ambience Mall, Sector 29- Market, Kingdom of Dreams, HUDA Ground, Hotel Crowne Plaza, Westin Hotel, Galleria Market, Good Earth Mall, Cyber Hub etc.
Around 14 assistant commissioners, 60 police inspectors, 450 traffic cops and 900 outstation trainee cops will be deployed in addition to the cops from the police stations and administration.
Besides this, there will be 5 fire tenders, 2 cranes and 2 ambulances will be stationed at IFFCO Chowk, Bristol Chowk, sector 29 market and South City. Counter assault teams including bomb disposal squads, anti-sabotage check team, rider duty and PCR vans too will be on patrolling duties.
Also, MG Road will be a no driving zone from 6pm on Sunday (Dec 31) till Monday morning (Jan 1). “There will be no entry on the road from IFFCO Chowk, Hotel Westin, Bristol Chowk and Sikanderpur side. Only the residents with valid car stickers will be allowed,” said DCP (Traffic) Deepak Gahlawat.
Also, to curb drunken driving, Gurygram police has partnered with a cab based aggregator. These cabs will be allotted dedicated parking lots in Cyber Hub, Sector 29 Market and MG Road, from where the commuters will be allowed to board a cab. Cops will ensure that none of the drivers are drunk. They will carry alco sensors and will check those existing the party hubs. If one will be found to drunk, then they will be advised to arrange another driver or hire a cab. The cabbies too will be checked for the alcohol influence.
