Cops arrest two Galleria carjackers within 12 hours

The city police succeeded in nabbing two members of an auto-lifters’ gang within 12 hours of their committing a crime in Galleria Market on Friday night.

GURGAON: The city police succeeded in nabbing two members of an auto-lifters’ gang within 12 hours of their committing a crime in Galleria Market on Friday night.
The accused had snatched a new Swift D’zire from its driver around 10.45 pm on Friday. According to the police, while one of the accused belongs to a rich family and had earlier worked with Honda Motors, the other is a government bus conductor in UP.
DCP (east) Vikas Arora said they had received an emergency call from the car driver, Kaman, at 10.45 pm on Friday.

The auto-lifters had fired two bullets at the driver when he had resisted handing over the car keys to them. An injured Kaman was then rushed to a nearby hospital. Arora said the police soon swung into action and pickets were placed at various locations to nab the criminals.
Arora added that teams were formed and were sent in different directions to ensure that the accused could not escape. At one of the pickets on Faridabad road, the police team saw the car coming from the Gurgaon side. Cops deployed there signalled the driver to stop near Ghata village. One of the accused has been identified as Shahid, a native of Hamirpur district in UP, while the other has been identified as Dinesh Gupta, also a native of UP. During interrogation, both the accused confessed to their involvement in more than 10 criminal incidents in Delhi, Gurgaon and UP. “They are wanted criminals in Delhi and UP and belong to the gang of criminals whose kingpin is Sunil Meena. Five of their accomplices are still absconding.
Police sources added that Dinesh’s father is an ex-Army personnel and his brother is also in the Army, while his mother is a teacher.
