Cop out to arrest murder suspect shot dead by him
REWARI: A police sub-inspector (SI) was shot dead by a murder accused near the Haryana-Rajasthan border at Dharuhera in
Singh (49) had been recently sent to Rewari as in-charge of local intelligence. His team was on the trail of the accused when the latter opened fire on the Dharuhera-Bhiwadi Road and Singh received a fatal bullet injury on his chest. The man he was after, Naresh, was nabbed by Singh’s team with the help of villagers.
Singh, who was from Jatola village in Pataudi, was posted in Rewari on October 27. On Thursday night, Singh received a tip-off that Naresh (42), accused of murdering a dhaba owner in Dharuhera on October 31, was roaming on the Dharuhera-Bhiwadi Road.
Around 9.30pm, Singh formed two police teams of three cops each and reached the location.
Naresh spotted the police team and opened fire. Around four bullets were fired and one of those hit Singh. Hearing the gunshots, villagers gathered at the spot and helped police catch Naresh.
Police recovered one country-made pistol and 23 live cartridges from his possession. He was produced in court on Friday and has been sent to three days in police remand.
Besides murdering the dhaba owner, Naresh was involved in three other cases of murder and attempt to murder in the past.
“Singh was also part of the police team that arrested Naresh around eight years ago. He was recently released from jail after serving a seven-year sentence for his past crimes,” said a Rewari police spokesperson.
Singh, who was shot in the chest, was rushed to the government hospital in Rewari by his teammates. He was declared “brought dead” by doctors.

On Friday, Singh was cremated in his village. Haryana ADGP and inspector general (south) Shrikant Jadhav and Rewari’s superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Sharma were present at the cremation.
Haryana DGP BS Sandhu has announced that Singh would be given the martyr status. Besides this, Singh’s family will receive Rs 30 lakh as a special grant, Rs 30 lakh from insurance for his untimely death, and his son’s education till Class 12 in Police Public School, Rewari, will be free of cost.
“I have instructed the SP Rewari to file a chargesheet in the case on a priority basis,” said Sandhu.
