GURUGRAM: A convict attempted to escape from the city court premises, where he was brought to for a hearing, on Monday. The accused managed to jump over two boundary walls, but was caught before he could cross the third. An FIR has been registered against him by the Gurgaon police.
The convict, identified as Idreesh (28), is a native of Rajasthan, and has been convicted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
He had moved the high court and was being taken for a hearing when he tried to escape.
According to police, the incident occurred around 3:00pm, when a police team was taking him to court number 5, of additional session judge Aarti Goyal. The convict ran away and jumped to the lawn area, on the ground floor. He then ran towards court number 1 and the parking area, and managed to cross two boundary walls. By then, cops and the people around raised an alarm, and ran behind the convict. One of the lawyers, Durgesh Bokan, managed to catch hold of him, near the third boundary wall. By then, cops arrived and nabbed the convict.
“I saw him running away, and followed him and caught hold of his leg while he was trying to jump over the boundary wall. By then, police reached the spot and nabbed him,” Bokan said. After getting the information, a police team reached the spot and took the accused in custody.
“Acting on the complaint of Naib court Suresh Kumar, we have lodged an FIR against Idreesh, under section 224 (resistance by a person to his lawful apprehension) of IPC. We are interrogating him and will produce him again in the City Court," said Inspector Vikram Mehra, SHO, city police station.
