GURGAON: A TOI team visited several illegal parking slots across the city to find out how the contractors are overcharging residents and office goers.
Commuting across the city, this reporter found out that the parking fees in Sushant Lok, DLF Phase II, DLF Phase III and Cyber City are especially erratic and exorbitant, ranging from anything between Rs 10 to Rs 100.
Meanwhile, parking lots around Galleria Tower in DLF Phase IV and Sushant Lok are had no board, which would indicate that they are authorized by
HUDA or MCG, and there was no mention parking fees anywhere. Residents complained that they are being fleeced regularly and they have no option but to cough up the money.
TOI took the parking receipts in several areas and most of them displayed names of the private parking contractor and not any government body. On being asked about the validity of the parking fee, the attendants picked up fight with the reporter.
At Galleria, there are four parking lots where Rs10 is charged from the car owner. TOI learnt that the parking is run by a private firm which is not authorized by any civic agency. The receipt in the parking slot however has ‘authorized parking’ mentioned in it. A senior HUDA official said: “The parking is not authorized and action will be taken against the erring contractor.”
In Sector 14, it was found out that the parking slot in the main market has been authorised only three to four months back by the HUDA administration which otherwise has been in charge for the past four years.
