Cons cheat Gurgaon woman of Rs 26L with fake DU job offer
Gurgaon: Two people were arrested on Thursday after fraudsters offering a "teaching post in Delhi University (DU)" duped a family from Dundahera of Rs 26 lakh. The accused defrauded a woman aspirant and her family from Gurgaon district's Dundahera area by sending fake emails offering an assistant professor job in DU.The initial demand was for Rs 35 lakh. "We paid them Rs 26 lakh in total," Ankur, the brother of the aspirant, alleged in his complaint. Following the complaint, a cheating case was registered at Udyog Vihar police station on Wednesday."We arrested two accused, Sandeep Kumar and Omkar Yadav, on Thursday. They are currently on four-day police remand," Udyog Vihar inspector Balraj Singh said. Ankur (34) alleged that on Oct 7, 2023, his sister attended an interview at Delhi University for the post of assistant professor, but she was not selected. On Oct 15, 2023, Omkar, who knew the victim's family well, approached them."Omkar claimed that he knew senior officials in DU and, with the help of his friend, Sandeep, they could secure my sister a teaching job in DU," the complainant alleged. Ankur said, "They initially demanded Rs 35 lakh for securing the job but finally agreed on Rs 32 lakh."On the instructions of the accused, the complainant transferred Rs 15 lakh as an initial payment into the bank account provided by the offenders in Oct 2023.The complainant said, "I met the accused several times in Delhi and Gurgaon subsequently. At 11 am on Jan 10, 2024, my sister was called for an interview at the DU campus through an email from an official ID of DU.""Later, the accused said that the interview was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. On Jan 29, she received another mail from the top DU official's email ID saying she was selected for the assistant professor's post and asked to come with certificates for verification on Feb 19," the complainant said. After the email, the duo again said that the verification programme was cancelled.Subsequently, the complainant's sister received another email from the varsity "top official's ID" asking her to come to the campus for certificate verification on April 4. "During this period, the accused kept taking money from us," Ankur said. "We realised the fraud on April 4 when my sister and I went to the DU campus for certificate verification. We were told by the staff that no such certificate verification had been scheduled," the complaint alleged. When confronted by the victims, the accused initially tried to reassure them with false promises of securing a job in DU. But when the victims demanded their money back, the accused threatened them with dire consequences. As the accused refused to return the money, Ankur lodged the complaint with Udyog Vihar police and a case was registered on Wednesday under sections 406 and 420 of the IPC against Omkar Yadav and Sandeep Kumar.MSID:: 116889470 413 |
