College in faraway Rewari village, students protest

Gurgaon: Students owing allegiance to ABVP have been sitting in protest in Rewari demanding that a government college recently set-up in a far-flung village be relocated to the district town.
The students claimed that the college was set up some six years after it was announced by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and that too outside the town in Chand Awaz village.If not relocated, female students would be forced to drop out as their families may not allow them to travel for hours daily.
Moreover, the ABVP activists alleged that the college has been holding classes out of four rooms of a school building because of the lack of infrastructure.
One of the protesting female students told TOI that in the name of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao', the government is making it difficult for women to access education. “It will be difficult for female students to travel such a long distance daily to reach college. The parents of many girls will force them to drop out because of fear for their safety. The government should relocate the college to Rewari town," she said.
The protestors also alleged that the school lacks basic infrastructure. “In the past six years, the government acquired land in the town twice for setting up the college but the acquisitions got cancelled on both the occasions due to some reasons," said Yogesh Bhardwaj, media convenor, ABVP.
"Now, the government has acquired land in the village for the college without even considering how difficult it is for students to reach there. We are protesting for our right to education,” he added.
