GURGAON: Corporate houses in the city will be celebrating Women’s Day more like women’s week this year. The professional circuit, on the occasion of International Women’s Day which coincides with Holi on Thursday, has planned week-long events for women employees, apart from special counselling and mentoring sessions in various offices across the city.
On Wednesday too, several corporate facilities held events marking the day, with special emphasis on women’s empowerment and gender diversity at the workplace.
Telecom and communications major Alcatel-Lucent marked the occasion by having an in-house screening of the Oscar-winning documentary ‘Saving Face,’ a film by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy about acid attacks on women in Pakistan. “We have also had a panel discussion on what it means for women to have a corporate career and how theycan balance family and career,” said Anirudh Patil, VP, strategy, marketing and communication, Alcatel-Lucent, which boasts over 2,000 women employees at its several facilities.While some professional women were learning how to manage work and family efficiently, others were busy preparing to tackle difficult situations on the streets.
Bharti Airtel’s Gurgaon facility held a self-defence training camp for its women employees as a part of the day-long celebrations on Wednesday. “The activities here were attended by over 300 women employees,” said a company representative.
