City Centre to remain sole Yellow Line link for new metro corridor in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Millennium City Centre station is going to be the only link to Delhi Metro on the upcoming Gurgaon Metro route.
A proposal to change the route of the upcoming Gurgaon Metro and connect it to the existing Delhi Metro station at Sikanderpur has been dropped after Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) found it unfeasible. The HMRTC board, which held a meeting last month, decided against the change.
The plan, if approved, would have shifted the metro's terminal station from Cyber City to Sikanderpur, allowing access to the Yellow Line of Delhi Metro.
This would have allowed passengers to easily switch to Delhi Metro and travel directly to places like Connaught Place or New Delhi railway station without needing to take a separate route.
After detailed studies, HMRTC came to the conclusion that this change was not practical. This means the new metro corridor will continue as originally designed, with its terminal station at Cyber City, which is a major office hub that already sees a large volume of daily footfall.
A GMRL official said, "Most of the land along the suggested alignments is already developed, making construction highly difficult and expensive. An RRTS station is also proposed at Cyber City and it is planned to integrate with the new metro line."
Millennium City Centre — formerly HUDA City Centre — is a Delhi Metro station on the Yellow Line, located in Gurgaon. It serves as the terminal station for the Yellow Line, connecting the city with Delhi.
Sikanderpur is a key transit point, connected to both the Delhi Metro and Gurgaon Rapid Metro. The Rapid Metro is a 11.7km elevated corridor that links various parts of Gurgaon to the Delhi Metro network. Sikanderpur station, located on the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro, is integrated with the Rapid Metro, facilitating easy transfers between the two systems.
Official minutes of the HMRTC board said, "The board concluded the available Right of Way (ROW) along the proposed routes is insufficient and running two metro corridors in a parallel manner would be operationally and economically unviable. Accordingly, it was decided terminating the Gurugram Metro Line at Sikanderpur is not feasible."
The idea was suggested by Ashok Khemka, who was then the additional chief secretary of the state's transport department. He raised the question of whether it would be better to end the new metro line at Sikanderpur instead of Cyber City.
Subsequently, HMRTC examined the feasibility of the suggested change. The consultant examined two possible alignments — one that would extend the metro from the proposed Millennium City Centre station to Sikanderpur and another from the planned Cyber City station to Sikanderpur.
Multiple route options were reviewed, focusing on land availability, technical design and how the new line would interact with the existing metro infrastructure.
However, the study found that the routes lacked adequate ROW for laying new tracks or building the infrastructure needed to take the metro line all the way to Sikanderpur, meaning there wasn't enough room to construct the new line without running into buildings or other obstacles.
In addition, running two metro corridors close to each other — from Sikanderpur to nearby areas — would be operationally inefficient. It would also be very expensive and offer little benefit in return.

Considering the history, legacy, indecisions, bureaucratic wrangling, insufficient in puts, lackadaisical surveys, lost opportunities, lack of political foresight, public convenience last priority. In totality poor decision and lost case. . Read allPost comment
