GURGAON: The traffic department has written to Haryana Roadways asking it to instruct its buses to halt at designated stops at IFFCO Chowk. Buses continue to create traffic snarls at the busy intersection despite cops taking various measures to decongest the area. This is the second time in a fortnight that the traffic police have written to the Haryana Roadways after no action was taken.

Measures including reducing the waiting time at traffic signals and demarcating a lane for U-turn have already been introduced to smoothen vehicle flow at IFFCO Chowk. However, drivers of heavy vehicles including buses are yet to fall in line. While trucks don’t drive in their lanes, buses stop anywhere on the main carriageway to get more passengers. There is a bus stand/queue shelter under the IFFCO Chowk flyover but the Haryana Roadways buses don’t stop there. The letter to the GM, Haryana Roadways (Gurgaon), states that drivers stop buses in service lanes and drop passengers on the road itself, leading to traffic chaos.
Cops have asked the Haryana Roadways officials to direct bus drivers to halt buses at designated stops. It was suggested to depute marshals to manage movement of buses and ensure they follow norms. Pedestrians are already risking their lives on the expressway. There are chances of their being hit by fast-moving vehicles. Pedestrians crossing the road also cause frequent traffic jams. Despite repeated attempts, Haryana Roadways GM Yashendra Singh could not be contacted.
