Stopped, biker without helmet, friends thrash 2 home guards
Gurgaon: Two traffic home guards were attacked with sticks and rods by a biker and his friends after he was stopped for not wearing a helmet and asked to show papers at Kanhai Chowk on Saturday evening.Around 6.30pm on Saturday, ASI Suresh Kumar led a team of four home guards – Sumit, Sunil, Jitendra, and Mahesh – to regulate traffic at the key junction as signals were not functioning. They stopped a KTM bike coming from Kanhai side as the rider did not wear a helmet."Sunil asked the rider to produce his licence and papers for the bike. As the rider claimed he did not have any documents, Sunil called me. The biker identified himself as Ilyas, a resident of a slum on Sector 44. He asked me to let him go after issuing an online challan," ASI Kumar said. When the cops insisted that they needed to impound the bike, Ilyas called his friend Raqib, who said he was somewhere nearby."Raqib asked us not to trouble his friend, saying he was an accused in 10 criminal cases. But we chose to ignore the threats and continued with the process of seizing the bike. All of a sudden, six to seven youths came to the spot, armed with sticks and rods, and attacked Sumit and Jitendra," Kumar said. The two home guards suffered grievous injuries. The attackers, however, fled with the bike when the ASI and other cops intervened.Sumit and Jitendra were taken to civil hospital in Sector 10 for treatment. ASI Kumar lodged a complaint, following which an FIR was registered against Ilyas and Raqib under sections 191(3) (rioting armed with a deadly weapon), 190 (unlawful assembly), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 221 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions) of the BNS on Saturday night."The home guards are stable now. The two youths are untraceable. We are trying to trace them," SI Vinod Kumar said.
