ASHA workers protest in Ambala demanding hike in monthly honorarium

AMBALA: ASHA workers held a protest against the Haryana government near the house of minister Anil Vij at Ambala Cantonment on Wednesday.


The ASHA workers have been protesting for the last 37 days demanding an increase in their monthly honorarium and others demands.

An ASHA worker presently gets about Rs 7,000 to 9,000 honorarium per month which includes incentives also. Among the main demands of ASHA workers include minimum salary of Rs 26,000 per month, retirement age at 65 years, pension and gratuity, employees’ state insurance (ESI) and provident fund.

In Ambala, a large number of ASHA workers attempted to reach Vij’s house but they were not allowed to proceed by the district police and stopped at the bus stand.

A minor scuffle also took place between the protestors and police. The ASHA workers were detained from the protest spot and taken away in buses.

Irked over the action against ASHA workers in Ambala, some of them who were protesting in Yamunanagar also jammed the highway for some time demanding release of detained workers. The police reached and managed to pacify them after assurance that the detained ASHA workers would be released.
