Ambala: Man booked for issuing rape threats on Instagram

AMBALA: Police have booked a case against a man for allegedly threatening a woman of rape and kidnapping on social media platform Instagram.
The man, identified as Akash Soni, has been booked under Section 67-A (punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act, etc., in electronic form) of the Information Technology (IT) Act and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In her complaint, the woman alleged that the accused has been making fake accounts in her name and uploading her photos in those accounts for the past 3 days.
“For the past three days, someone is making fake IDs in my name with my edited pictures on Instagram. The person is giving rape and kidnapping threats. I am feeling very harassed. The person is editing my photos and claiming that he would misuse photos if I do not accept his terms,” the complainant stated in her FIR.
“After receiving the information with the help of the cyber team, the accused has been identified as a resident of Ambala Cantonment area. We are trying to arrest him and he would be taken into custody very soon. Further action would be taken as per law,” Maheshnagar SHO Ajaib Singh said.
