GURGAON: Architectural and structural drawings, geotechnical investigation report of the 7.7 acre area in Civil Lines — among the first steps to build the city’s largest government-run hospital — is under process. Health department officials on Wednesday said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), which is currently mapping out a plan to carry out the construction of a 700-bedded Civil Hospital.
Officials said an advance amount of 10% of the preliminary estimate will be released to CPWD after getting administrative approval on its final design plan.
Ten per cent funds will be released on the award of tender. The project will be executed in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode of the contract. CPWD will submit a quarterly progress report to the health department.
The demolition of the old Civil Hospital building, built in Civil Lines five decades ago, has been completed.
“We had a meeting with the CPWD members on Wednesday and told them to start work on architectural drawings and surveys of the area. We will release funds after approval of the design and plan,” said Virender Yadav, CMO Gurgaon.
According to the MoU, the defect liability period for the project shall be taken as two years from the date of handing over to the health department or the date of completion of building by contractor, whichever is earlier. “The defect in building during this period shall be rectified by the contractor at his own cost,” the MoU reads.
The hospital is supposed to have a capacity of 700 beds, a CT-MRI unit, departments of radiology and oncology, specialised sections for nebulisation and immunisation, microbiology, clinical pathology, and molecular & biochemistry units. Apart from a haematology unit, there will also be a laboratory for blood group serology and a transfusion centre.
The hospital will replace the old Civil Hospital, where six incidents of roof collapse were recorded in 2015 and 2016.
In 2015, after the ceiling of the maternity ward collapsed three times, authorities decided to move the ward to the general hospital in Sector 10 and carry out the renovation. A year later, the ceiling of the ICU ward also collapsed, with hospital staff and patients making a narrow escape.

Private hospitals to set up dengue wards in Patna
Private hospitals in Patna, India, have decided to set up separate wards for dengue patients due to an increase in cases. On Friday, 30 patients were being treated in private hospitals and 48 in government hospitals. The hospitals expect the number of dengue patients to rise in October. In total, there were 196 patients undergoing treatment in different government hospitals. A total of 213 new dengue cases were recorded in the state on Friday, bringing the tally to 1,795. Physicians have advised people to ensure proper hydration and seek medical attention for symptoms.
