SUV rams truck amid fog on eway, two cousins die

Nuh: Two cousins died and four others were injured after their Ford Endeavour crashed into a truck that was parked on the Delhi-Mumbai expressway without any indicators on a foggy Saturday morning.
The accident occurred near Firozpur Jhirka around 9.30am, when the SUV was headed for Rajasthan’s Alwar from Sonipat. The two who died were Harsh (21) and Anjali (26), both cousins. The injured — Harsh’s aunt Pushpa, her son Happy, Harsh’s sister Manvi and a family friend Mira — were treated at a private hospital and discharged later.
Harsh, police said, was driving the Endeavour to Alwar, where Anjali, Manvi and Mira had their law exam at Sunrise University. They had reached Ferozepur Jhirka when Harsh failed to spot the truck amid dense fog. By the time he slammed the brakes, the SUV had crashed into the truck.
“Harsh’s face was smashed and his head had multiple fractures. Anjali, who was seated in front, suffered fractures on the right hand. Glass shards from the broken windshield pierced her throat. Both of them died before they could be taken to a hospital,” said Virender, a sub-inspector at Firozpur Jhirka police station.
A complaint was lodged by Manvi, following which an FIR was registered under IPC Section 304A (death by negligence) against the truck driver. “The driver is on the run. We have sent a notice to the truck owner. He is ready to cooperate with us,” Virender said.
