“The purpose of the fest is to disseminate financial awareness at an early age, looking at the demand of the industry. It is important for students to be financially independent and be able to take decisions after understanding the same to the core. Any habit is inculcated in the developing years at the schools and hence the initiative. This would make them confident and aware about their finances as they grow up and chose a profession for themselves,” Nisha Peshin, Director Academics and Public Schools-II DAVCMC told TOI.

The fest provided the students and their parents with insights into effective financial management, empowering them with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complexities of personal finances.

They learnt about earning, saving, spending, investing, loans, and other financial intricacies, representatives from 13 banks and 22 financial experts orchestrated lectures and interactive sessions.

A class 9 student from DAV School was surprised to learn the intricacies of financial management at early age. He said, “The speakers presented the biggest information in the most entertaining manner possible. We have watched videos of one of the personal finance expert who was a speaker here on Instagram. He is entertaining and captivating. I learnt that I can still save when I don’t even earn. Saving from pocket money can help me to even buy a playstation if I am patient and strategic enough.”

Principal of DAV sector 49 Charu Maini said, “Schools should have the responsibility of organising such workshops as this is the age when students can grasp and retain most of the knowledge.”

Varun Malhotra, founder and director of a financial literacy institute and one of many speakers told TOI, “If a person needs to live a life of comfort and happiness, money is important. And most of the people don’t know how to manage money only because they were never taught about it. While they were busy with rote learning at schools, world progressed and now they don’t know how to make money. Times have changed and people need to become more aware and educated before they have to face the real world. Hence, financial literacy needs to begin from childhood.”

Participating students from schools like Delhi Public School, Suncity School, DAV Public School, Salwan Public School and St Xavier's High School among others were divided into 40 teams and were given tasks and quizzes to make learning fun and receptive during the two-day financial literacy festival.
