He condemned the recent incident involving a Kerala tourist who allegedly assaulted a doctor at the GMC on Monday.

“We (GMC administration) will not tolerate violence against any healthcare professional, be it doctors, paramedical staff, or nurses. We have zero tolerance for any violence of any sort on the hospital premises,” he said.

Patil said the accused, identified as Arif Siddique, was referred to GMC from the North Goa district hospital for further treatment. Upon arrival, Siddique exhibited violent behaviour and physically assaulted the doctor on duty in the casualty ward.

The accused has been arrested by the Agasaim police. Patil said that GMC is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and expressed confidence that justice will be served by the court.

The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) condemned the attack and said that strict judicial action will be taken immediately.
