Woman who hit ambulance carrying newborns at Verna was drunk: Cops
Vasco: Verna police on Thursday registered an offence against a 33-year-old woman who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when her car rammed into an ambulance on the Verna–Pirni bypass around 9.15 pm.
Police identified the accused as Zenobia Zora Chaco, a resident of St Jacinto island. Police said she was driving in a rash and negligent manner when her car collided with an ambulance carrying three newborns and their mothers from GMC to South Goa district hospital, Margao.
Verna PI Anand Shirodkar said Chaco was allegedly “under the influence of alcohol” at the time of the accident.
“We have registered offences under Sections 281 (rash and negligent driving), 125 (rash and negligent act endangering human life) 125 (a) (rash and negligent act causing hurt) of the BNS and Section 185 (driving under the influence of alcohol) of the MV Act,” Shirodkar said.
While the newborns and their mothers escaped unhurt, the ambulance’s paramedical staff sustained minor injuries, police said.
The accident also resulted in traffic congestion on both sides of the highway.
