With airlines shifting ops to Mopa, Dabolim will turn into ghost airport: Alemao

Porvorim: Leader of opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday said that Goa International Airport at Dabolim will turn into a ghost airport as airlines are starting to shift their operations to Manohar International Airport at Mopa.
“There is fear and anxiety in the minds of the tourism stakeholders, including taxi owners, hoteliers, other related businesses, and the people of South Goa in general, after the recent announcement by national carrier Air India that it is shifting its international operations from Dabolim to Mopa airport,” Alemao said.
He added that since the commissioning of the Mopa airport, many airlines shifted their operations from Dabolim, and the trend is growing. “Till Aug 5, 2024, three flight operators shifted their operations from the Goa International Airport to Manohar International Airport,” he said.
The opposition leader said that despite appeals, govt failed to stop the shifting of airline operations from Dabolim to Mopa. “This has led to a drop in passengers at Dabolim airport. This move will have a significant impact on the tourism industry in South Goa and there is fear among the stakeholders that Dabolim airport will be shut to help Mopa airport’s growth,” he said.
