I don't think pay parking will help decongest the city as we have very little parking space to begin with. What is needed is the creation of adequate parking facilities. Pay parking as of now will make very little difference with only the municipality earning some revenue.

The solution to this problem is not pay parking but the creation of more spaces for parking in a more effective manner.

That would help decongest the city.

Pay parking is at best only a temporary solution which for a few days will probably dissuade people from parking in the city streets where this is implemented. But, unless alternative, effective and comfortable public transport is provided to and fro from the designated parking spots, and the parking access and ease is ensured, this will fail miserably as in cities like Delhi and Mumbai where such changes have not deterred anyone.

I honestly cannot fathom how pay parking will help reduce traffic and decongest the streets because the number of cars on the road will be the same. There is pay parking in the market and the area is almost always packed with parked cars and double-parked cars. Patto also has pay parking and that's a mess too. The only way the traffic on streets can be lessened is if there are allotted areas for parking and people are forced to park their cars there instead of circling the city in search of parking and then ending up double and triple parking (commonly seen on 18th June Road) creating traffic jams. We need proper traffic and parking system if we want to have decongested roads. This all depends on the RTO and how they take it forward.
