PANAJI: A major
water pipeline
of the water resources department (WRD)
burst
at
Siolim
on Wednesday, resulting in the road over the pipeline caving in. Residents were startled when they heard a loud thud in the morning, only to realise later that the sound was caused by the
pipeline burst
.
The pressure of the water breaking through the road surface could have possibly resulted in the sound.
Officials said that due to the nature of the damage, it would take at least five days to repair the pipeline and restore the road.
“The WRD has been informed of the damage and they will begin repair work at the earliest. Only once the pipeline is repaired will it be possible to take up repairs. It is expected that by Monday, the pipeline and the road will be restored,” said an official.
A lot of water flowed onto the road, leading to wastage while also briefly affecting movement of vehicles along the road.
Water supply to nearby areas will also be affected over the next few days due to the damage to the pipeline.
