Water levels of rivers in Ponda rise

Ponda: With the incessant downpour over the catchment area of the Khandepar and Kalem rivers, all rivers flowing through Ponda taluka have shown marginal rise. The Khandepar river level at Opa has risen by 3m. Even the turbidity of raw water has increased on Wednesday morning. An internal road from Nirankal to Dabal village in Dharbandora was inundated after the Udnhoi river—a tributary of the Dudhsagar river swelled by Wednesday morning. Sunil Kerkar, an assistant engineer of PWD, said this high turbidity is not uncommon during continuous heavy rains and the water is safe for consumption. “Water is released to consumers only after proper filtration at the Opa water treatment plant,” he said.
