MARGAO: Villagers at the gram sabha of the Colva panchayat held on Sunday vehemently voiced their opposition to a proposed commercial project undertaken by the state's tourism department and urged the panchayat not to grant its approval for the project.
Villagers expressed their apprehensions that the locals carrying out trade in the vicinity will be affected if the commercial project comes up in the village.

A resolution to this effect was also adopted by the gram sabha.
Opposition to a construction project in the village also dominated the meeting for a while with villagers taking the panchayat body to task for allowing the allegedly illegal project to come up.
Gram sabha members also discussed the issues pertaining to the proposed Mopa airport and the special status for Goa. Resolutions demanding that Dabolim be retained as the sole international airport of Goa, and that Goa be bestowed the special status, were also passed after a lengthy debate.
The issue pertaining to the influx of migrants in the village was also discussed in the gram sabha with the villagers expressing concern over the failure of the authorities in keeping a tab on them.
Sarpanch Snowcon Gonsalves presided over the meeting.
