PANAJI: "I have sacrificed my daily 8 to 10pm television schedule of Hindi soaps for Iffi and I`m off to watch a film," said Maya Borkar from Margao.
"My husband is surprised that I don’t spend hours before the TV," exclaimed Nehal Patel from Porvorim. "But I just cannot resist watching all these films," she added.
Viewers skipped the television soaps for films, but film directors at Iffi sure did not.
"I`m glad that I just have one child," said actor Nana Patekar at Iffi 2010. "According to the popular Indian soaps nowadays, even a Maharashtrian wedding takes place over four days. I cannot afford that. I think soaps manipulate our traditions and culture completely."
Meanwhile IDPA (Indian documentary producers association) president
Mike Pandey said, "I`m glad that some of the thrash is off the screens finally. I do not think our Indian women spend their days crying and having multiple affairs as these soaps suggest."
On Thursday, the films will end and people will return to their TVs for their quota of daily entertainment but, these comments from the film fraternity cannot be ignored.
