Velsao villagers seek clarity over survey of houses in CRZ

Vasco: The fishing community from Velsao seeks clarity from govt over the survey of their houses that’s been done through the digital global positioning system (DGPS). A fisherman said they were taken by surprise on Monday when a team approached them to conduct a survey of their houses that were in the coastal regulation zone (CRZ).
Fisherfolk said they were unaware of the reason behind the survey when 80 per cent of the houses along the Velsao coast belong to them, and 20 per cent are occupied by farmers and toddy tappers.
“We don’t know the purpose of conducting the survey. They should explain to us; the people conducting the survey should show us the authorised letter,” an agitated fisherman said.
Another fisherman said they are not opposed to the survey, but they will not allow it unless there is clarity. “There’s a mistrust as several issues plaguing the village have remained unresolved,” he said.
The villagers, he said, are already troubled over the rail double tracking, road widening, construction of a flyover, and other issues.
