Vasco police crack 5-year-old’s rape & murder case, 2 arrested

Vasco: Vasco police have cracked down the murder case of a five-and-half-year-old girl within 24 hours after committing the crime. The police have arrested Murari Kumar (24) and Upnesh Kumar (22), both natives of Bihar, for their alleged involvement in sexual assault, strangulation and murder of the girl.

The accused had earlier made an attempt to sexually assault the mother of the deceased girl, but their plan was foiled after her husband came to her rescue, disclosed Vasco police. For revenge, the accused targeted the five-and-half-year-old daughter and executed their plan accordingly during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday by taking the innocent girl to an under-construction site of a residential complex near Vaddem lake, police said.

“The accused have confessed their involvement in committing the murder by strangulating her to death after she was sexually assaulted by both of them. The accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco, and has been remanded to 5-day police custody”, informed superintendent of police, South, Sunita Sawant.

The team led by Sawant includes the superintendent of police, crime branch, Rahul Gupta, deputy superintendent of police, Vasco subdivision, Santosh Dessai, Vasco PI Kapil Nayak, PSIs Archana Gaonkar, Rohan Madgaonkar, and Rohan Nageshkar and beat police staff Santosh Bhatkar, Purshottam Naik, and Damodar Mayekar.
