Urban naxalites instigating people to create unrest: CM
Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Saturday that urban naxalites, who are present in Goa, are instigating specific people in the state to create unrest, and that Goa police should act to nullify the movement.
Speaking on urban naxalites at a state-level conference to disseminate the outcome of the DGs and IGPs conference, 2025, Sawant, who is also home minister, said, “Who says there are no urban naxalites in Goa? We cannot name those who are urban naxalites. They are working in the state and trying to instigate people.”
“The chief minister should act? It is your (govt officers) duty to nullify the movement. It is your duty to do it,” he said.
On tourism, Sawant said that tourism-related incidents were reported in the state and such incidents need to be avoided. Sawant urged govt officers to suggest various steps, including reforms, to stop such incidents in the near future.
Sawant said that govt is concerned about the safety and security of citizens and tourists coming to the state. “There are a lot of people who love to criticise the chief minister and enjoy it. It is your responsibility to come up with solutions to those problems. People come to Azad Maidan and criticise govt,” said Sawant.
The chief minister said that he does not commit any mistakes and acts promptly. “All give bad words to the chief minister, but actually the departments concerned should act. Most times I send the inputs to the department to act. This should come from the departments,” he said.
“When SPs and DySPs look at issues, why do I have to intervene? It should be resolved at their level,” he said, adding that everyone should work in coordination to improve the image of the state.
The CM said that a lot of international-level events take place in the state, and it is the duty of officers to work to improve the state’s image at the national and global level.
