Uniform Civil Code should be implemented across India: Baghel
Panaji: Union minister of state for law and justice S P Singh Baghel on Tuesday said the Uniform Civil Code should be implemented throughout India.
“It is already on BJP’s agenda for the country, and one day it will become a reality. It should happen because we are one nation. A law should be brought in and we need to have a Uniform Civil Code,” he said.
When asked about an independent high court for the state of Goa, Baghel said that this request will be considered if a complete proposal is sent from the state.
When asked about when the Goa bench of the high court of Bombay at Goa would commenced livestreaming hearings as the Supreme Court and high courts in other states have already begun, Baghel said the decision is left up to each high court.
“Each high court is independent and with its own budget. When they decide to do it (livestreaming), yes they can,” he said.
Baghel was speaking to reporters outside the high court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday after interacting with stakeholders, and was given a tour of the building during an informal visit.
Baghel said that he held discussions with the advocate general and other stakeholders regarding pendency of cases, and the conviction rate in the state.
He also held informal interactions with advocates from the high court and lower courts.
