Uma Patil in hot water once again
Margao: A day after the mother-son duo, Uma and Shivam Patil of Baina, were arrested by the Vasco police in a cash-for-job scam, another offence of the same nature was booked against Uma at the same police station. This time, the victim was a woman from Baina who was induced into parting with Rs 1.7 lakh for a govt job for her brother-in-law.
Police said that Kenchavva Madar, in her complaint to Vasco police, stated that she paid the amount to Uma between Aug and Dec 2016. As the accused neither provided the promised job nor returned the money even after waiting for all these years, Madar approached the police on Thursday. The Vasco police registered a fresh offence against her under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
For the earlier case booked against them, Uma and Shivam were produced before the JMFC Vasco on Thursday and were remanded in two-day police custody. They were charged with inducing Rashmi Vinod Chopdekar, a woman from Chimbel, into paying Rs 6 lakh for a police constable’s job for her son. However, she failed to provide the job or return the amount.
With this, the number of cases of the ‘cash-for-job’ scam reported in Vasco has gone up to three. Earlier, Govind Manjrekar and Suraj Naik were arrested by Vasco police in connection with a cheating case wherein the duo took Rs 4.3 lakh from Sakshi Sudarshan Kerkar of New Vaddem to provide a govt job as multi-task staff in the education department.
