Two teenagers feared drowned in Okamb
Ponda: Two teenagers, a girl and boy, were feared drowned in
Ponda police said that Saniya Mulla, 16, slipped in the river, while her friend Pradip Malannavar, 17, jumped into the water to save her. However, both went missing as neither the girl nor the boy were found until late Monday evening despite an intense search by fire and emergency services personnel. Police have now summoned Navy divers to continue the search inside the river bed on Tuesday.
Police said that a group of seven students of Dada Vaidya High school, Curti-Ponda had visited Okamb to celebrate their Std 10th promotion. “After enjoying a swim in the river, Mulla slipped in the water while climbing out. Seeing her being pulled by the water current, Malannavar jumped in an attempt to save her. However, both of them could not withstand the strong current and disappeared in deep water,” Ponda PI Mohan Gaude said quoting eyewitnesses.
