Two personnel in dock for carrying drugs into jail
Panaji:Goa police and jail authorities on Tuesday suspended deputy superintendent of jail Krishna Usgaonkar and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) assistant sub-inspector Suraj Toraskar for allegedly carrying contraband into the central jail at Colvale while joining duty.
Police said that the incident took place four days ago, and an inquiry was ordered. Based on the report, both were placed under suspension pending the inquiry.
Inspector general of prison (IGP) Omvir Singh developed intelligence that the duo were involved in the illegal smuggling of contraband into the jail, allegedly. Singh directed jail guards to check IRBn personnel thoroughly, and Toraskar was found with tobacco. Police said that Toraskar used to bring contraband, and Usgaonkar used to supply it to jail inmates.
