Two-day security drill "Sagar Kavach" begins in Goa

A "terrorist" planted two fake bombs to blow up Goa's prestigious state-run Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital at Bambolim, but the bombs were defused by the Goa police in a mock drill, "Sagar Kavach" on Tuesday morning, police officer said.

PANAJI: A "terrorist" planted two fake bombs to blow up Goa's prestigious state-run Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital at Bambolim, but the bombs were defused by the Goa police in a mock drill, "Sagar Kavach" on Tuesday morning, police officer said.
The two day Sagar Kawach exercise began in Goa on Tuesday. The exercise is conducted to strengthen the coastal security of the state.

The comprehensive coastal security exercise involving all concerned agencies is being conducted under the aegis of government of Goa since 2009. The coastal security exercise "Sagar Kavach Goa" was conducted last in December 2014.
The objective of this exercise is to provide seamless seaward cover along the Goa coast jointly by all security agencies from coastal belt area line to the limit of territorial waters that is 12 nautical miles. The exercise will also assess the effectiveness of coastal fishing community in serving as "eyes and ears" for early warning of seaward threat.
