Trio assault guard, tie up elderly couple, rob Dona Paula house
Panaji: An elderly couple from the Dempo family endured a traumatic experience on Sunday when three robbers armed with daggers broke into their residence at Dona Paula. The trio tied 77-year-old Jaiprakash Dempo and his 71-year-old wife, Padmini, to their bed while carrying out the robbery
The trio entered the bungalow after assaulting the security guard. Upon entering the house, they first tied Padmini to the bed and then Jaiprakash.
Police said that Jaiprakash recalled opening his eyes to see three persons standing in front of him.
Police said that only the senior citizens were in the bungalow at the time when the crime occurred. After the incident, the robbers escaped with valuable items.
The incident came to light in the morning when the domestic help entered the house to perform daily chores. She immediately untied the elderly couple, and the incident was reported to police.
Police said they are examining the value of the items taken by the robbers and but added that it is expected to run into lakhs.
Panaji police have checked all the CCTV cameras to identify the accused. They have registered the first information report (FIR) against unidentified persons and launched a massive hunt to nab the accused.
Police said that fortunately the armed robbers didn’t cause any harm to the elderly couple. Police said the security guard was shifted to private hospital for treatment.
“A case has been registered. CCTV footage is being analysed. Suspects are being narrowed down based on the modus operandi. Fingerprints and forensic experts have obtained valuable leads,” SP (North Goa) Akshat Kaushal said.
“We will soon arrest the accused,” deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Varsha Sharma, who is monitoring the investigation, told TOI.
