Tree branch falls, crushes 55-year-old

Ponda: An elderly man who had volunteered to help with tree cutting died after a branch of a tree collapsed on his chest, damaging his spine on Sunday.

Prakash Babuso Gaude, 55, a resident of Murdi Khandepar, was working in a horticultural plantation during the incident. He was immediately rushed to Ponda sub-district hospital, where he was declared ‘brought dead’.

Ponda police later got the postmortem examination done at the South Goa district hospital at Margao.

Dr Anup Chandran stated in the autopsy report that Gaude died due to damage to his chest and spine. Police handed over the body to his family for final rites.

Gaude is survived by his wife, a 13-year-old son, and an aged mother. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Ponda police station under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023.
