TN girl dies at Vasco as dad’s scooter falls

Vasco: New Year for Vasco was marred by a tragedy, as a Tamil Nadu girl, 2 years and 10 months of age, was killed in an accident at a petrol pump in the heart of the town on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Aafiya Samira Khan.

Vasco police said the accident occurred around 8.30am, after the girl’s father, Kalilulla Khan, failed to deploy the side stand of his rented scooter. Aafiya was standing nearby when the scooter fell; she was trapped beneath it.

Khan had taken the scooter to the pump to fill up fuel. He was accompanied by his wife, Aafiya, and another daughter. The family had flown to Goa for New Year celebrations.

Aafiya was taken to the Chicalim sub-district hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Khan’s wife and their older daughter had alighted from the scooter before it crashed to the ground.

The postmortem examination conducted by police surgeon Dr Anup Chandran has certified the cause of death as craniocerebral damage consequent to blunt force impact.

The accident has been captured by CCTV cameras installed at the petrol pump. Police have ruled out foul play.

Vasco police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Police sub-inspector Plato Carvalho is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and DySP Gurudas Kadam.
