Third Cashew Fest from April 25-27

Panaji: The Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC) will host the third edition of the Cashew Fest from April 25 to 27, said Deviya Rane on Thursday.
“I dedicate the festival to our farmers and self-help groups. The festival will highlight the contributions of local farmers and artisans. ‘Explore, Empower Enrich’ will be our tagline for the third edition. Goa’s cashewnut is world famous, but so many cashews from outside the state are being sold as Goan cashew, when the taste of our local cashewnuts is completely unique and different. That is why this festival was planned to promote our local nut,” said Rane.
She said the local nut will soon get a GI tag, following which no one will be able to sell other nuts as Goan cashewnuts.
Rane said that more land has been brought under cashew cultivation by reviving existing farms by GFDC, which will soon increase production of the local fruit and nut in Goa. She said the festival will have free entry for all and will be hosted at D B grounds in Panaji. Chief minister Pramod Sawant will inaugurate the festival.
There will be over 50 stalls at the festival, including cashew produce stalls and food stalls, offering a diverse selection of cashew-infused cuisine crafted by local women, renowned chefs and restaurants.
The festival will offer technical sessions, interactive workshops and educational sessions focused on cashew grafting techniques, sustainable farming practices, and industry trends, she said.
