“We have gone to the Supreme Court over the Mhadei issue. For the first time salinity test has been conducted on the Mhadei and that report will be submitted soon. As the water sharing is still being contested by Goa, the extension of term is important from Goa’s point of view,” chief minister Pramod Sawant said.

The order issued by the ministry states that the tribunal had requested the Centre to extend its terms by one year. “Now, therefore, in pursuance of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub-section (3) of section 5 of the said Act, the Central Government hereby extends the period of submission of further report by the said tribunal for a period of one year with effect from the August 20, 2021,” the ministry’s order states.
