PANAJI: Locals leasing out rooms in Cansaulim will have to register their tenants with the Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim (CAC) village panchayat within a month of their tenants taking up residence. The resolution was adopted at a recent gram sabha.
The decision follows the arrest of four insurgents of the Manipur-based People's United Liberation Front in the village two months ago.
The resolution held that the VP will forward the names to Verna police station for verification of the tenants' antecedents. If residents fail to comply with the requirement they will be fined by the VP, the gram sabha resolved.
On the issue of CAC's inclusion in the outline development plan gram sabha members opposed this on grounds that the VP has already submitted a village plan marking water bodies, public utility infrastructure like roads, public drinking wells and sports facilities.
Cansaulim being a coastal village, CRZ regulations were respected and mega hotel and housing projects were to be restricted to VP 3 status with FAR of 50%, they argued.
Gram sabha members also asked CAC sarpanch Miguel D'Costa why construction licences were being issued to mega projects despite a HC directive for proper garbage management in Cansaulim.
VP secretary Ratnakar Govekar told a gram sabha member in a written reply that Cansaulim's waste disposal site was disputed and the collecter had returned the land acquisition file.
