PANAJI: The T20 of Indian Cinema contest came to a close on Sunday evening with a total of 1.9 million entries registered from participants across the country, said Manoj Srivastava CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) at a press conference on Sunday.
"The concept behind this novel initiative is to involve the whole country in the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) and getting film lovers to rate the top 20 feature films of Indian cinema," added chief minister Digambar Kamat.
Bollywood actors Aftab Shivdasani and Sayali Bhagat, and directors Glen Barretto and P Sheshadri were also present.
Upon collating data received from participants across the country, 20 choices from each of the ten contemporary film directors - comprising Madhur Bhandarkar and Vishal Bhardwaj among others - and ten prominent film critics will be merged to arrive at a 'Master Choice' list of the 20 top films. Twenty participants' choices matching with this Master Choice will be declared winners at a function to be held at the open air auditorium of the Kala Academy on Monday evening.
Launched in Mumbai by Dev Anand and in New Delhi by Sameera Reddy and Suniel Shetty, the contest began on November 10. It is an effort by the ESG to promote the Iffi across the country.
