State to ensure justice for Lavoo, says Sawant

Panaji: Following the death of former Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar in a road rage attack in Belagavi on Saturday, chief minister Pramod Sawant said that the state administration in Goa will work to get justice for the former legislator.

“Deeply anguished by the untimely and tragic passing of former MLA Lavoo Mamledar in Belagavi. His dedicated service to the state, both as an officer of Goa police and later as a legislator, will always be remembered with gratitude,” the CM said. “The state administration is in close coordination with the local authorities in Belagavi to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and to bring those responsible to justice. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Agriculture minister and current Ponda MLA Ravi Naik paid tributes to Mamledar, recalling the latter’s “good work as a police officer as well as an MLA”. Naik added, “He was a good-natured person, above all.”

Minister for transport Mauvin Godinho said, “Deeply mourn the passing of my good friend, Lavoo Mamledar, an upright police officer, a fine gentleman, and a dedicated public servant.” He added, “His contributions to Goa, both in law enforcement and public service, will always be remembered.”

BJP Rajya Sabha member Sadanand Shet Tanavade said Mamledar made valuable contributions to Goa’s politics and the police force.

“Saddened and shocked by the untimely passing away of Congress leader and ex-MLA Lavoo Mamledar in tragic circumstances. May his soul rest in peace,” said South Goa Congress MP Viriato Fernandes. “May God grant strength to his family to bear this enormous loss.”

The speaker of the state legislative assembly, Ramesh Tawadkar, said, “I am deeply saddened by the untimely and tragic loss of former MLA Lavoo Mamledar in Belagavi. My sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul find eternal peace.”
