State launches 75 free public Wi-Fi hotspots

Panaji: The department of information technology, electronics and communications launched free public Wi-Fi hotspots at 75 locations on Wednesday. The department also launched the ‘One Map Goa GIS’, a platform that provides a decision support system for govt bodies.

“We were looking to see how citizen services could be improved. We also moved to improve connectivity, particularly where there were shadow spots. There was a need for Wi-Fi spots in villages,” said minister for IT and tourism, Rohan Khaunte.

There are 46 free Wi-Fi spots in North Goa and 29 in South Goa. Chief minister Pramod Sawant and Khaunte inaugurated 11 fully installed and operational 4G BSNL towers. This aims to bridge the digital divide in remote regions, ensuring reliable and efficient internet access for all. Govt has allotted 66 sites for BSNL to set up 4G network towers. Khaunte also launched the LetsGoa app for tourists, which is designed to deliver a world-class experience to tourists for stay bookings, activity bookings, and a closed-loop wallet.
